Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos pilots giant robot
20 March 2017, 09:21 | Megan Pierce
The Method-2 robot’s arms stretch wide with Amazon’s billionare founder Jeff Bezos at the controls
It's dedicated to talking about machine learning, home automation, space exploration, and of course, robots.
He may be incredibly wealthy, follicly challenged, and have a reputation for being an uncrompomsing businessman, but that's where Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos's similarities with Superman nemesis Lex Luthor ends.
The robot was created at Hankook Mirae Technology's lab near Seoul in South Korea and showcased in Los Angeles at Amazon's MARS robot conference over the weekend.
But as a glimpse into the possible Amazon warehouse worker of the future it was an eye-opening experience.
Chuck Berry dead at 90
The song is a tribute the the genre Berry loved, and was covered many times since by everyone from the Beatles to the Beach Boys. Berry's music, and especially lyrics, struck a chord with many. "Oh yes and how to write a great (rock and roll ) song".
In another video he is heard asking, "Why do I feel so much like Sigourney Weaver?" making a reference to the actress' scene in "Aliens" in which she wears an exo-suit. The robot is the Method-2, and first came to public attention last December when videos and pictures of the bot circulated online. Its movie-like appearance is influenced by one of the designers, Vitaly Bulgarov, a concept artist who's worked on the likes of Ghost in the Shell (live action) and Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.
This fact and a few others have led some to suggest that the Method-2 is actually an elaborate hoax. Admittedly, though, those arms are moving pretty fast. What's likely is that the Method-2's mobility is limited.
Still, if the robot lives up to its promises, then there's no reason why the Method-2 couldn't join the fight brewing between Kuratas and US-based MegaBots, whose creators hope to turn robot mecha suits into a new fighting sport.
