Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger downplays financial importance of UEFA Champions League qualification

Arsenal give update on manager situation: This is from official club spokesman

The Arsenal board remain reluctant to sack Wenger but, according to German newspaper Bild, have approached Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel as a contingency plan should the Frenchman choose to leave.

But Wenger said that missing out on the Champions League for the first time in 20 years would not form the basis of his decision.

Although there's no official word on Wenger's future just yet, several outlets were reporting on Sunday evening that the 67-year-old was not hinting at an imminent departure. Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon and the result saw the Gunners slump to sixth in the Premier League table.

In contrast, fans of Tottenham, their local rivals, were welcoming the idea of an extended Arsenal stay for Wenger.

"They've got a big game next week against Manchester City and suddenly if you they win that a lot changes, but I think it will be a struggle to make the top four".

"We're certainly not taking our foot off the pedal", the Wales worldwide told the club's website. "I've done the top four twenty times, it is not that". "I don't judge other people", said Wenger. That could be identified with a second plane saying: "In Arsene We Trust".

"Everybody in life is responsible for his own behaviour". "I give my best and as long as I will be at the club if it's for two more years, if it's for ten more years, if it's for one month... it's not the difference. If you're asking me what Arsenal should or shouldn't do I'm the wrong person". However, an Arsenal club source said both players will join up with their national teams, although it remains unclear if they are fit to play.
