"If the protesting doctors do not resume work by evening then the authorities will take legal action against them", Mahadeshwar said. Mumbai: Medical services in 17 government hospitals were disrupted on Monday when over 4,000 resident doctors went on a mass casual leave to protest growing incidents of attacks by patients' relatives.

Since March 12, attacks have been reported on doctors in Dhule, Shirpur, Nashik, Aurangabad and Mumbai. A doctor was beaten black and blue by the relatives of the patient for alleged delay in treatment in Dhule few days ago.

Resident doctors, along with IMA youth wing representatives and the Maharashtra Association for Resident Doctors (MARD), were to meet mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar at 1 pm. Around 30 people are accused of assaulting the doctor, an attack which left him with an orbital fracture and the likelihood of him losing his vision in one eye. Following this, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) started a protest against the system. As per a report published by The Indian Express, Bombay High Court has asked doctors in state not to go on strike unitil the "grievance cell" that has being constituted by the government to look into their problems submits its report.
