The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has signed forward Omri Casspi.
Casspi, 28, averaged 5.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 22 games with the Sacramento Kings this season before being sent to the New Orleans Pelicans in the DeMarcus Cousins trade. Apparently, the deal will cover just till the end of this year. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released. But he suffered a broken right thumb in his first game with the Pelicans, who were forced to cut him to add another healthy body to the mix as they tried to chase down a playoff spot.
Casspi has played parts of eight seasons in the National Basketball Association with Sacramento, Cleveland, Houston and New Orleans.
Minnesota now is 4.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
"The 6'9", 225-pounder has appeared in 23 games this season (one with New Orleans) and averaged 6.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game on 46 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent from deep. Casspi has also spent time with Cleveland and Houston.
