The Secret Service has been under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security since 2003.
The intruder, named as 26-year-old Californian resident Jonathan T Tran, was in the building for almost 17 minutes before he was arrested and was seen hanging around outside hours before.
Chaffetz pointed to the Secret Service leadership and understaffing as reasons for recent failings. As he was arrested, Keoughan added: "This is a test", the report added. CNN reported the driver claimed to have a bomb.
"That's why we spend billions of dollars on personnel and dogs and technologies and fences and undercover people and video surveillance", the Utah Republican said.
Another person has been apprehended after trying to get into the White House, just a week after an intruder was caught in its grounds. It hasn't said what caused the auto to be considered suspicious.
"If true, these allegations raise questions about whether the agency's security protocols are adequate".
In a statement Friday, the Secret Service said that its investigation is ongoing and that it has conducted more than 50 interviews about the incident.

A driver was detained Saturday night after he reportedly told officials at a White House checkpoint that he had a bomb in his auto.

Secret Service agents are angry over the breach, and believe they have been hindered by insufficient technology to detect intruders.
President Donald J. Trump was not at the White House this weekend.
Tran was on the White House grounds for 16 minutes before he was caught.
