South Korean prosecutors summoned ousted President Park Geun-hye Wednesday to appear for questioning next week in the corruption scandal that forced her from office.

Now, animal rights groups are accusing Park of animal abandonment.

The Samsung Group, South Korea's largest conglomerate, is already embroiled in the scandal and the Yonhap news agency said prosecutors had started investigating two other conglomerates - the Lotte Group and SK Group.

Park was given two Jindos in 2013. Son Bum-kyu, a lawyer for Park, confirmed that they had received it.

The pair of presidential pooches recently gave birth to seven puppies.

It is not clear whether Park's decision to not take the dogs with her can be considered animal abandonment under South Korean law.

Ousted President Park Geun-hye gets out of a vehicle appearing misty-eyed in front of her private residence in southern Seoul after returning from the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae on March 12, 2017, two days after she was removed from office at her impeachment trial at the Constitutional Court. The court concluded that the former president had helped her friend Choi Soon-sil extract bribes from South Korean conglomerates, leaked her confidential documents, and then lied to cover up her wrongdoing.

The constitutional court unanimously upheld the motion to impeach Park on Friday, about three months after the motion was passed in the parliament by an overwhelming majority.
