Stephen Hawking plans space travel on Virgin Galactic

Stephen Hawking Plans to Travel to Space

Professor Stephen Hawking is planning to travel into space on Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Hawking said he did not hesitate in saying 'yes'.

Professor Hawking also shared his views on US President Donald Trump and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn during the interview.

Hawking added that even though everyday life in the USA seems to be continuing much the same as it always has, he fears that the new administration will have a chilling effect on the scientific community.

"I have many friends and colleagues [in the US] and it is still a place I like and admire in many ways... but I fear that I may not be welcome", Hawking said on ITV's "Good Morning Britain" on Monday morning.

"Trump was elected by people who felt disenfranchised by the governing elite in a revolt against globalization".

In the same interview, Hawking said he feared he would not be welcome in Donald Trump's America, calling the USA president a "demagogue" appealing to an electorate "who are neither liberal, nor that well-informed". "But I fear that I may not be welcome", he said.

US Senate confirms ex-senator Dan Coats as Director of National Intelligence
Coats, 73, has swung back and forth between government service and lobbying, the type of Washington career that Trump has mocked. Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., said Coats is "an advocate for strong oversight of the intelligence community".

In a wide-ranging interview, he told the programme: "My three children have brought me great joy - and I can tell you what will make me happy, to travel in space".

Asked what message he would like Morgan to relay to Mr Trump when he sees him, Professor Hawking said: "He should replace Scott Pruitt at the Environment Protection Agency".

He suggested that the appointment of Pruitt, as well as the promise of a border wall and the sanctioning of two oil pipelines, are created to "satisfy [Trump's] electorate, who are neither liberal nor that well-informed". "It's no good having the right principles if you never get in power".

"I have already completed a zero gravity flight which allowed me to float weightless, but my ultimate ambition is to fly into space".

"We should retain as many links as possible with Europe and the rest of the world, particularly China". However, Hawking said he will continue to support the party.

Hawking also noted that the current "seismic shift" in gender equality, represented by the five most powerful people in Britain being women, indicated that there is hope for further empowerment of women in the future.

Hawking also added that dragging the United Kingdom out of the European Union would undermine its status as a "world-leader in science and innovation".
