UK PM May on Brexit

A No 10 spokesman said the UK's Ambassador to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow, informed the European Council, headed by President Donald Tusk, earlier on Monday of the date that Article 50 would be triggered next Wednesday, 29 March.
"We have a plan for Britain", Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday adding that part of that was "delivering on Brexit in getting the right deal for Britain overseas and Europe".
Britain's Brexit minister David Davis said in a statement that Britons had approved a "historic decision" to leave the European Union after four decades of membership.
U.K. Brexit Secretary David Davis has said "the first meeting, bluntly, will be about how we do this?"
Plans to leave the EU have been in the works since last June, when a slim majority of British residents voted to withdraw from the union.
The move will begin a two-year negotiating period in which the British government and the European Union hope to agree on the terms of Britain's exit and reach a separate deal on the shape of their future relationship, most importantly on the terms of trade between the two.
Negotiations will also soon hit a fundamental topic: Britain wants "frictionless" free trade, but says it will restore controls over immigration, ending the right of European Union citizens to live and work in Britain.
Mrs May is expected to make a statement to the House of Commons shortly after invoking Article 50.
"However, in the quiet data period ahead, that seems like less of a risk than normal, in no small part because Brexit-related uncertainty is unlikely to decline significantly anytime soon".
If Scotland votes for independence, expect more years to negotiate its split from London and possible re-entry to the EU.
It will also coincide with the signing of a £1.3 billion Swansea City Deal between the UK Government, local authorities and the Welsh Government, which aims to create more than 9,000 jobs in the region.
Later this week, EU leaders will gather in Rome to mark the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, which established the European Economic Community - the initial forerunner to the EU.
By the end of next week, after he has received May's letter, European Council President Donald Tusk should have distributed draft guidelines for the negotiations to the 27 other national governments.
On the EU side of things the European Commission will lead negotiations, but the final agreement will require consent from European Parliament, which consists of hundreds of MEPs from every member of the EU. Leaders of the 27 nations will then meet in April or May to finalize their negotiating platform. Despite mutual threats of no deal, few want such chaos. England's 310-year-old union with Scotland is also in jeopardy, while the border separating Northern Ireland - a United Kingdom province - from the Republic of Ireland could become a hard one.
