Senate votes to approve Trump's picks for key security posts

President Trump's choice to lead the Office of National Intelligence is confirmed by his former Senate colleagues.

Vice President Mike Pence administered the oath of office after the Senate voted Wednesday to confirm Coats's nomination by a vote of 85-12.

Coats said during his confirmation hearing at the Senate Intelligence Committee that moving back to the executive branch was not his plan when he announced his intent to retire from the Senate.

"That information is critical to the central premise of smart intelligence policy: Security and liberty are not mutually exclusive, and Americans deserve both", Wyden said. The overarching position of national intelligence director was created to address the problem and create a single person to whom all intelligence agencies are held accountable.
