Amazon's Alexa is coming to your iPhone

Amazon's Alexa is coming to your iPhone

Prime Now and booze delivery, the two newest shopping experiences on Alexa that are going live today, are designed in the same vein. Amazon Prime members can now order with their voice on Amazon's local delivery service. For example, if you added items to a shopping list through your Echo, it would appear on the app's shopping list.

It's today switching on the ability to make Prime Now orders through voice commands alone.

Inside the Amazon App for iOS, there will be an microphone icon close to the highest point of the screen that you can press to call Alexa.

Amazon revealed Thursday it will bring Alexa to the iPhone through its official app, allowing users to not only ask the company's voice assistant for help with shopping, but request information such as news, weather or sports scores.

Prime subscribers have for some time been able to buy products through Alexa, but now tens of thousands of products are available for free two-hour delivery. "We're excited to offer the full Prime Now catalogue with Alexa, including tens of thousands of items, which allows you to refill everyday essentials you've just run out of like diapers or dish soap, or cater to unexpected guests with merlot and ice cream, all without ever leaving your house or even getting up from the couch". Customers can add as many items as they want and Alexa can offer suggestions based on the other items in their current order. It then automatically chooses the next available two-hour delivery window and has Amazon bring your purchases directly to your door.

Amazon's Alexa voice assistant is now available on the iPhone. Initially it was limited to reordering items someone had previously bought, and this was later opened up to millions of items through Amazon Prime - the company's $99 annual membership scheme.
