Ax Attack Injures 7 At German Train Station

An elderly man has been attacked with a machete in a vehicle park in Dusseldorf.

"The suspect appears to have had psychological problems", police said.

"We were at the track waiting for the train".

An eyewitness told German newspaper Bild: "The train came and suddenly someone jumped out with an axe and started hitting people".

Police have yet to confirm details, and there are no reports of fatalities.

"I helped her get the wound treated and called her father", the unnamed woman said, the Telegraph reported.

The unidentified assailant fled after seriously injuring the elderly man in a parking lot in the city's outskirts, The Telegraph reported. The attacker fled the scene and police are now searching for him.

The 36-year-old Kosovan national left named locally as Fatmir H left nine commuters injured after slashing them with an axe on Thursday night.

The attack comes months after a terrorist attack on a Christmas market in Berlin killed 12 and injured 56 more after a lorry was driven into crowds of shoppers.

According to police, the 80-year-old victim suffered "blow-cut injuries", but fortunately these are not life threatening.

"Several people" are believed to have been injured and images posted on social media showed paramedics treating the wounded.

Germany suffered a terror attack in Berlin in December previous year when a lorry ploughed into a Christmas market, killing 12 and injuring 56. The killer, who also died, had been undergoing psychiatric treatment.
