The number of people with ten-figure fortunes now stands at 2,043, which is 233 more than previous year. Bill Gates has topped the Forbes list for 18 out of the past 23 years.

Forbes said Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos had the biggest monetary increase on the list, with his fortune surging by $27.6 billion to $72.8 billion.

"We do not give any credit for "brand value" to Trump or Oprah or any other person on our list", Forbes editor Randall Lane told the Washington Post.

The change in the total of billionaires saw a spike of 233 since last year, the largest increase in 31 years, according to Forbes. He dropped 220 spots for losing about $1 billion of his 2016 net worth ($4.5B), though.

The "Oracle of Omaha", Warren Buffett, reclaimed the second spot on the list, after a two-year hiatus, as his net worth rose to $75.6 billion, up from $60.8 billion in 2016.

The highest ranking woman on the list was L'Oreal cosmetics shareholder Liliane Bettencourt, who was 14th with $39.5 billion (roughly Rs. 2,58,318 crores).
