Senate Confirmation Hearings Under Way for Trump's Supreme Court Pick

Trump Says He's The Reason NFL Teams Aren't Signing Kaepernick

Trump Takes Another Jab at Ex-49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick

Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement calling on members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to vigorously scrutinize the record and judicial philosophy of Judge Neil Gorsuch as they begin his confirmation hearing today.

A 2016 graduate of the University of Colorado Law School alleges that Supreme Court justice nominee Neil Gorsuch once explained to his class that "many women" manipulate companies to receive maternity leave-only to leave their jobs after they've availed themselves of the benefits.

The questioning of Gorsuch will begin on Tuesday, March 21st, with testimony by outside legal experts as well as the American Bar Association expected to follow. However, through an audacious and historically unprecedented act of grand theft judiciary, the Republicans stole the seat out from under the Democrats and now have the chance to put a radical, young conservative on the Court for the next several decades. "Now they are arguing that the Senate should rubber stamp a nominee selected by extreme interest groups, and nominated by a President who lost the popular vote by almost three million votes".

Multiple other Democrats cited the so-called "frozen trucker" case, in which Gorsuch dissented against a man who was sacked for abandoning his truck in sub-zero temperatures when he feared for his health. He added, "Thank goodness that the majority in this case pointed out that common sense and the Oxford dictionary" supported their view that the firing was without merit. Back then, he didn't feel the need to give opening statements.

"Even if he can't comment on the specific immigration case, he has to at least show that he respects the principle that the government can't discriminate on the basis of religion; that a Muslim ban would violate the Constitution", he said. "For the truth is, a judge who likes every outcome he reaches is probably a pretty bad judge, stretching for the policy results he prefers rather than those the law compels".

Grassley was at the White House when Trump announced Gorsuch was his pick to fill the vacancy on the nation's highest court.

General Mills, Inc. (NYSE:GIS)
General Mills makes up approximately 1.9% of Summit Global Investments' holdings, making the stock its 10th largest position. Other research analysts have also issued reports about the stock. (NYSE:GIS) are moving down -0.25% to trade at $60.66.

The letter was dated Monday, the first day of Gorsuch's confirmation hearing for the supreme court.

The most consistent message from Democrats, however, has been to claim that Gorsuch will not be able to be an independent check on the president who nominated him. They are not doing so out of a sense of altruism - they expect him to deliver.

And beware of senators, Republican or Democrat, trying to pin Gorsuch down on hot-button issues such as abortion or gun rights. The seat has gone unfilled as Republicans refused to hear any Obama nominee, hoping to hold out until last year's presidential election concluded.

"I want someone who will stand up to Trump and be his own justice", said Blumenthal.

John Elway wrote a letter to support Donald Trump's Supreme Court justice nominee.
