NewsBreaking News Iran Supreme Leader Blames ‘Zionists’ For Western View Of Women
In a telephone conversation with Ayatollah Khamenei on Monday evening, a few minutes after beginning of the new Iranian year, President Rouhani hailed the Leader's expert guidance as well as social unity and concerted efforts as the factors encouraging his administration to press on with the "Resistance Economy" grand plan in the new year.
Speaking in a televised, pre-recorded message for Nowruz, or the Persian New Year, Khamenei acknowledged Rouhani had made progress by opening the economy after signing the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, by which Iran agreed to significantly limit nuclear development in exchange for relief from global sanctions.
"I feel the pain of the poor and lower class people with my soul, especially because of high prices, unemployment and inequalities", Khamenei said in his New Year's message.
"What has been done is far from the expectations of the people and the supreme leader", Khamenei said. The senior clerics also wished the president and his cabinet success in serving the Iranian nation.
US Airstrike Hit North Syria Mosque, Killing Scores
The strike was condemned by the Islamist group Ahrar al-Sham, which said targeting mosques was a war crime under worldwide law. Obtaining accurate independent figures is hard because of the challenges of reporting in the multi-sided Syrian civil war.
Rouhani's government has stabilized the economy since taking power in 2013, reducing inflation from 40 percent to less than 10% and ending global sanctions through a nuclear deal with world powers.
Foreign companies have signed a string of deals with Iran since the nuclear deal, but are blocked from large-scale investments because global banks remain reluctant to engage with the country due to transparency concerns and uncertainty over continuing USA sanctions.
Iranian leaders claimed the launch, which sparked worldwide concern, did not violate the terms of the agreement with world powers in 2015 to constrain its nuclear capabilities.
