The Tom Brady stolen jersey saga, which started off as an intriguing and anecdotal footnote in the New England Patriots' post-Super Bowl story, has officially morphed into an global crime drama that's nearly stranger than fiction. According to Glazer, a person of interest - via the Associated Press, one that has ties to a Honduran newspaper - emerged after surveillance video was analyzed by the FBI, NFL security, Patriots security and the Houston Police Department.

FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer explained how authorities zeroed in on the suspect.

CNN was attempting to obtain comment from Ortega.

HPD Chief Art Acevedo revealed that police were able to track down the jerseys in Mexico after an informant came forward and provided them with information.

Their authenticity is being tested.

"We're highly confident that these are in fact the jerseys, based on our investigative efforts", he said. He didn't name the suspect but said he didn't live in Houston.

Federal Bureau of Investigation director blasted by Democrats after probe revelation
When he was asked what the committee expects from the hearing , Jack Langer, a spokesman for Nunes , gave a substantial list. But Comey did say he wished the bureau could have been more aggressive in warning the DNC in hindsight.

The NFL said the jersey, which had been assigned a value of $500,000 by the Houston police, was in "possession of a credentialed member of the global media".

And there may be more. That unidentified media member is also under investigation for taking Von Miller's helmet and/or cleats after the Broncos beat the Panthers a year ago in the Super Bowl, per Glazer.

"We are reviewing a Broncos' helmet that was retrieved as part of the on-going investigation", the National Football League said in a statement.

"It's like the Texas bravado", Acevedo said in his best Southern drawl". The league referred other questions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The FBI declined to comment to Denver7, citing an ongoing investigation, however Mexican newspaper La Prensa announced a public apology on Monday after connecting the dots between the case and one of their editors. "From what I know it's not just Brady's jersey, it's other things". "I know they worked hard on this case - and it is very much appreciated", he said in a statement.

A company official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly said on condition of anonymity that the former director was not part of the media outlet's Super Bowl coverage.
