Trump Says North Korea Dictator 'Is Acting Very, Very Badly'

North Korea Kim Jong-un missiles

The North said on Sunday that it recently tested a new high-thrust rocket engine, raising speculation that Pyongyang might be seeking near-future provocations despite warnings by the global community.

The president's remarks came shortly after North Korea announced it had successfully tested a new high-thrust engine, with Kim Jong-un calling it a "great event of historic significance".

"He's acting very very badly", the President on Sunday said of Kim Jong-un, according to the White House.

Mr Trump made the comments to reporters while departing his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he spent the weekend. Tillerson had previously denounced North Korea's missile tests, indicating that the Trump administration is open to taking pre-emptive military action if North Korea continues to elevate the threat of their weapons program.

North Korea's latest rocket-engine test showed "meaningful" progress, South Korea said on Monday, while an analyst said it was a unsafe step toward the North's goal of developing a rocket that could hit the United States.

A South Korean analyst said the test was an ominous development. While in Tokyo he had said that efforts over the past 20 years to prevent a nuclear North Korea had failed.

Earlier in February North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile, which is believed to have splashed down into the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.

North Korean leader Kim said in January his country was close to test-launching an ICBM. China resents being pressed to do more, saying the problem is between North Korea and the United States, although it too objects to the North's nuclear program.

In Seoul, Yun is expected to share the results of Tillerson's discussions in China with South Korea and exchange views on how to coordinate policies against Pyongyang.

"Any chance for dialogue must be seized, as long as there's hope", Wang said at a development forum in Beijing.

He also criticised China of doing "little to help". "And the better they can improve their technology to do that, the more accurate these systems are going to be - not only from leaving the pad, but also going into the atmosphere and then hitting the target on the other side".
