The Article 50 announcement came after Britain's envoy to Brussels, Sir Tim Barrow, informed Mr Tusk's office on Monday morning.

Get your diaries out because Theresa May has announced the date for triggering Article 50: March 29.

Earlier today, UK Prime Minister Theresa May announced that her government will be triggering Article 50 next Wednesday, starting a two-year process of negotiating an exit from the bloc.

"They will all see from the U.K.'s example that leaving the E.U.is a bad idea", European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said, according to CNN.

"We are going to be out there, negotiating hard, delivering on what the British people voted for", May said on Monday.

Dr Muscat told parliament that in his recent meeting with Mrs May in London, he emphasised that no new agreement would be better for the United Kingdom than that now in place with Britain as a full member of the union.

Britain has said it wants to agree its divorce and a new relationship with Europe within the two years.

Britain's Parliament last week gave its final approval to May's Brexit plans, and the prime minister had at one point been expected to trigger Article 50 then.

In Northern Ireland, which also voted to stay in the European Union, the largest Irish nationalist party, Sinn Fein, has said it wants a referendum on splitting from the United Kingdom and uniting with the Republic of Ireland "as soon as possible".

The IFG report anticipates the new bills will be in addition to the Great Repeal Bill, which will scrap the 1972 European Communities Act that paved the way for the United Kingdom to enter the then-EEC, ending the legal authority of EU law.

This round of funding means that Flipkart's valuation now stands at $10 billion as against $15.5 billion in 2015. Finally, Flipkart seems to be ending its fund-drought phase, which has been going on since a year ago .

Britain's future relationship with the European Union is not depending only on Article 50 though.

Negotiations will also soon hit a fundamental topic: Britain wants "frictionless" free trade, but says it will restore controls over immigration, ending the right of European Union citizens to live and work in Britain.

Mr Tusk has previously said he expects to release an initial response to the Article 50 notification within 48 hours, and an extraordinary summit of the remaining 27 European Union member states is due to be called within four to six weeks.

May has revealed little of her strategy for securing what she calls "the best possible deal" for the world's fifth largest economy and making Brexit as painless as possible.

May also faces political dangers at home, most notably in Scotland, where the first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, is seeking another referendum on Scottish independence.

"Brexit will be a journey into the unknown", Luxembourg's former Finance Minister Luc Frieden recently told a joint meeting of that country's American and British Chambers of Commerce".

The call would take advantage of polls showing May's Tories well ahead of the opposition Labour Party, which has been beset by internal strife under left-wing leader Jeremy Corbyn.

According to the Financial Times, Mr. Davis made clear that leaving without a deal would involve the imposition of tariffs for trade with European Union states by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for British businesses, something that many see as a major threat to the UK's economic system.

It has now been confirmed that Prime Minister Theresa May will trigger the beginning of formal withdrawal talks on March 29.
