9 months of sex scandals take down two Fox News icons

O'Reilly, a Fox News contributor since 1996 (and the highest rated host in cable television), has bared the brunt of public scrutiny of Fox companies in recent weeks after details of five sexual harassment claims against him were revealed. If records are any indication of the company's support, the claims don't appear to be unfounded.

In the 25- to 54-year-old demographic that's key for advertisers, Fox averaged 625,000 viewers during the "Factor," the time slot's best performance since O'Reilly went on vacation a week ago. "But thank God it stopped now with Bill O'Reilly at Fox".

British telecoms regulator Ofcom is deciding whether Fox news owner 21st Century Fox would be a "fit and proper" owner for Sky, though European regulators approve the deal. At the time, the company was aware of multiple allegations of sexual harassment against him and had even reached two settlements involving such complaints.

The exact financial terms of Mr. O'Reilly's exit package are not known, but it is expected that the company will disclose them in future regulatory filings.

Canada's Trudeau Says Country Sticking with Protectionist Dairy Quota System
The spat was spurred by a new Canadian milk policy that USA producers say violates NAFTA and comes at a sensitive time for U.S. The United States, he said, now has a dairy trade surplus with Canada. "So it's not Canada that is a challenge here".

Women's rights activists applauded Fox's decision to fire O'Reilly. O'Reilly will not be paid the entire amount he was owed, however, because the new contract also incorporated some "outs" for the network. Per a CNBC report, the Murdoch family praised O'Reilly's many accomplishments in a company memo on Wednesday.

One was Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News anchor. In fact, his success by any measure is indisputable. We have full confidence that the network will continue to be a powerhouse in cable news. Due to a confidentiality agreement, 21st Century Fox and O'Reilly's representatives would not acknowledge the payout.

Fox was already struggling to combat its reputation as a workplace that tolerated sexual harassment in the aftermath of allegations of similar behavior by former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.
