GM calls its latest creation, the Chevrolet FNR-X Concept that made its world premiere at the 2017 Shanghai auto show, an "all goal sports concept vehicle".

Described as an "all-purpose sports concepts vehicle", the FNR-X derives its name from the brand's slogan - Find New Roads - with the X telling you it's a crossover.

"The FNR-X builds on the design and technology showcased on the original FNR concept and embodies the belief at Chevrolet's core that anything is possible", said Alan Batey, GM executive vice president and president of GM North America and Global Chevrolet.

The concept demonstrates a "powerful, attractive design language" using what Chevy calls "clear, masculine lines".

The doors are rear-hinged and can be controlled remotely.

Trump to Meet Turkey's Erdogan Ahead of NATO Summit in May
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has insisted that his plans to assume sweeping new powers do not make him a dictator. Italy's foreign minister called for Turkish opposition forces to be involved in reforms following the weekend's referendum.

Under the bonnet there's a plug-in hybrid powertrain, although Chevrolet hasn't released any technical info on what engine or electric motors will power the FNR-X. The plug-in hybrid concept offers two driving modes, Versatility and Sport and adjusts the powertrain, suspension and aerodynamics to adhere to each.

It also offers intelligent adaptive control systems and Chevy claims it has switchable wheel blades that adjust automatically during high-speeds to reduce wind drag. The vehicle's self-driving system can also be used to handle off-road terrain in this mode.

The "X" factor, in this case, is a dramatic departure from the futuristic FNR concept which was created to preview how motoring might look in the decades ahead. Featuring high-tech fabrics, the cabin's hexagonal textures were inspired by graphene crystal structures - signifying the beginning of a new era for new energy.

The SUV's seats can be easily repositioned or removed to maximize cargo capacity. Seats ride on multipurpose rails and have fixed components to individualise storage space. The FNR-X is expected to morph into a production auto for the Chinese market in the future.

The tech side of the equation on the FNR-X Concept opens with intelligent connected mobility capabilities that link an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) dynamic display, an intelligent speech recognition and an ID-customizable information setup.
