Jose Mourinho urges Anthony Martial to start delivering for Manchester United

21 April 2017, 02:36 | Pamela Mathis

Anderlecht are fighting against the odds and the record books at Manchester United, but manager Rene Weiler believes his players can land a knockout blow in their Europa League quarter-final.

Mourinho, who has previously criticised Luke Shaw publicly, wants Martial to be more like Marcus Rashford.

He said: 'We have been together for nearly ten months.

"I go in the direction of the players, they have to also come in my direction", said the Portuguese.

"He's experienced and has know-how of this knock-out phase - I think he's a player that can be useful tomorrow (tonight)".

"That's why [Marcus] Rashford, even without scoring goals, is always a player I trust and I play".

Mourinho's United now sit fifth in the Premier League on 60 points, with seven games still to play, with a game in hand over fourth-placed Manchester City. Do I think Anthony has potential? Yes. "If we can play like we did against Chelsea, then I am sure we can get through against Anderlecht and into the semi-finals". I always think that football is a lot about motivational levels and, of course, playing the leaders is always a challenge. "In the Europa League, yes", he said, leaving observers to answer the Premier League question with a "no".

"We did not start well because we did not capitalise on the goal", Carrick told BT Sport.

"At a big club like Manchester United when you start the Europa League you probably don't have motivation that high, but at this stage it must be high.Romero is not my goalkeeper for the Europa League". Mourinho's squad selection was criticized before that fixture, with his starting XI indicating his focus on the Europa League, even though the team produced arguably their best performance of the season.

"The game was easy to kill", he said.

Anderlecht were impressive after conceding the first goal, and they labored in the 32nd minute to equalized as both sides went to the break with the scoreline at 1-1.

"Because he's so young, he's able to keep developing that day after day; he's always with one of the assistant coaches trying to make it even better". He played well in the Premier League, in the FA Cup, in the League Cup. But the "Anderlecht" sit on the defensive once, the team needed a field goal, so that from the Belgians, we are entitled to expect more action in the attack.

"He had not big problems during the season, but a few small problems and sometimes when you get into a certain age - I am not saying he is old, we have older players, there are many older players in great condition - but when you get to a certain age, it is a little bit more hard to recover".
