Rob Gronkowski Briefly Crashed Today's White House Press Briefing

21 April 2017, 02:44 | Ross Houston

Gronkowski and the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots were at the White House on Wednesday afternoon at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

Alan Branch, a defensive tackle for the Patriots since 2014, played high school football at Cibola High School in Albuquerque before going to college in MI. His White House visit on Wednesday was no exception. The Washington Post first reported on the tape.

"For me it was a personal matter".

A couple of Patriots, Devin McCourty and Chris Long, recently filmed a video to further explain why they would protest the tradition of visiting the president. "I love you mom and dad!"

"I wouldn't spend time away from my family to shake the hand of a guy I wouldn't want to meet with or talk to", Branch, who has a son and three daughters, said. "I'm going to give you another one, '" Trump said. "That's just not me".

FILE - In this February 6, 2017, file photo, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady walks off with his MVP trophy during a news conference after the NFL Super Bowl 51 football game in Houston. He played with the team from 2010 to 2012. "It's a long day". GRONK: You sure? SPICER: Maybe. Not only does he have to handle some of the tough questions by members of the press on behalf of the white house, he also has to deal with actress Melissa McCarthy parodying him on Saturday Night Live on a weekly basis. Obama is from Chicago, though he is a White Sox fan, not a Cubs fan.

The president isn't mentioning quarterback Tom Brady. He made that the greatest letter, and I did very well in that state. "Because he's someone I look up to every day".

Trump has close ties to the Patriots, counting owner Bob Kraft and coach Bill Belichick as friends.

But Brady said due to some "recent developments", he is unable to be there because he is "attending to some personal family matters".

Brady defended his friendship with Trump throughout the campaign, though avoided making any clear public declarations of political support. He then compared the Patriots' strategy to his own, telling reporters "whether you're trying to win a Super Bowl or rebuild our country, as Coach Belichick would say, there are no days off".
