Boko Haram kills eight Nigerian soldiers, loots army base

22 April 2017, 01:12 | Darnell Patrick

It was gathered that the terrorists launched the attacks in trucks and motorcycles.

The army says several arms and ammunition were carted away by the militants, including three Armoured Personnel Carriers, one gun truck mounted with anti-aircraft ammunition, and 9 self-propelled guns.

The Nigerian troops fought back gallantly, but were dislodged from their location after about an hour of fierce battle.

According to the report, the insurgents attacked the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Gari, Borno State and initially killed five soldiers and injured nine others. Four other soldiers are missing. Army authorities did not immediately comment on the development.

While Usman and Irabor did not respond to calls and text messages to their respective phone lines yesterday, an assistant to Enenche said his boss was at a meeting. The initial text messages sent to his line were also not replied to at press time.
