Kori Ali Muhammad
The suspect behind a shooting rampage that killed three people in just minutes in Fresno, California Tuesday has been charged with murder from a previous killing. For instance, while Kori Ali Muhammad claimed to police that he is Muslim, he also says he prays to seven different gods.
Muhammad is due in court Friday.
He was deemed competent in August 2006 and pleaded guilty to the charges of cocaine possession with intent to distribute and a weapons charge.
It's one of many new details suspect Kori Ali Muhammad revealed in an hourslong statement to investigators, Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Wednesday.
Police have said Muhammad was bent on killing as many white men as possible when he gunned down the three men in downtown Fresno and fired at another, who was missed by the bullets.
After emerging from the ravine Sunday, he cut his braided hair and burned it, altering his appearance from the "wanted" photos police would release while searching for him in the death of the security guard.
Fresno has used the gunfire detection system called ShotSpotter for about two years.
"I did it. I shot them", Dyer said Muhammad told officers.
In the next three minutes, police say Muhammad killed two more people and shot at several others, firing 17 rounds.
Muhammad shot the guard, 25-year-old Carl Williams, multiple times at close range shortly after 11 p.m., police said. It was not immediately known if she has an attorney.

"Banking on the hopes that American minorities will feel alienated if President Trump handles the subject of race the way he did during his campaign, with divisive language and an attention to white nationalism, black separatism is finding a renewed sense of energy", said the watchdog organization in a January 12 article.
Although Muhammad shouted: "Allu Akhbar" as he was taken into custody, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer has said the case did not appear to be an act of terrorism.
"Kori Muhammad is a very calloused individual". His father says his birth name is Cory Taylor.
Dyer also shared a timeline of events that began last Thursday night, when Muhammad allegedly shot a security guard.
Police had put out a news release hours before the shootings Tuesday, saying that Muhammad was armed and unsafe and wanted in the shooting death of a security guard at a Motel 6 last week.
