Melania Trump announces first overseas trip as first lady
19 May 2017, 06:56 | Ross Houston
Saudi Arabia confirmed on Thursday that it will sign commercial and political deals with the United States during President Donald Trump's visit to Riyadh next week.
President Donald Trump's supporters see his overseas trip as a chance to escape the non-stop revelations related to Russian Federation, but more likely he'll drag the controversy with him overseas - adding another dimension to an already tricky travel schedule.
For Saudi Arabia, the most significant event is the Arab-Islamic-U.S. summit, where it plans to showcase the kingdom's reach and drawing power.
Trump prioritises the fight against Islamic State, a group inspired by Saudi Arabia's ultra-conservative Wahhabi ideology. It is at this event where Trump is scheduled to make his address.
"Personally, I think they should cut it back now before they regret it", she said of Trump's long jaunt. They will feast with Trump at a banquet and "forge a new partnership " in the war against extremism, the king said this week. He's the first president since Jimmy Carter to not travel overseas during his first 100 days in office.
This is the president's first worldwide trip, but Ivanka Trump made a brief trip to Germany in April to appear on a panel at a conference dedicated to helping women in business.
"It will bolster the strategic partnership between the two countries".
The senior administration official said speculation about the impact of the Comey crisis on the trip is overblown, and that the White House doesn't view the trip as an opportunity to redeem the President or change the subject. They shortened their planned meeting with Trump to just a couple of hours to reduce the chance for gaffes.
Mr Trump has also called on Riyadh to carry more of the financial burden of the Syrian refugee crisis and people displaced from Mosul, providing troops to train anti-ISIL groups in Syria and reconstruction. Officials say the message is "unity". "So they want to invest in United States a lot which is good for us to create jobs", the official said.
The trip will conclude with the president meeting North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders and attending a G7 summit. Anytime Trump meets with a foreign leader, "you don't know what you're going to get", Kupchan said.
He added that the visit carries many important messages, as it is the first visit overseas by Trump after he assumed his presidency, and is expected to constitute new breakthroughs in strengthening economic relations and developing trade exchanges between the two friendly countries.

'PM should have shouldered responsibility for Jadhav case'
Instead of contesting the matter, this should have been done immediately after the Indians took Jadhav's case to the ICJ, he said. In April, a military court sentenced him to death for alleged involvement in spying and subversive activities.
