A UPS contracted cargo plane steered off its runway course and past a hillside in an airport in West Virginia Friday morning killing both the Pilot and his co-pilot according to airport officials.
The plane, which took off from Louisville International Airport, in Kentucky, arrived at Yeager around 6:53 a.m., according to flightaware.com.
He says Yeager Airport, serving West Virginia's capital, will remain closed until further notice, since the gouge marks may need fix. The two people who died were the only ones on board.
Mike Plante, a Yeager Airport spokesman, said the dead are the pilot and co-pilot, who were the only ones aboard the plane. Flightradar24, a flight-tracking website, said the aircraft is a Short 330 small turboprop passenger plane.
The plane landed in a wooded area off to the left side of the runway, and emergency workers were having a hard time getting to the crash site. It crashed shortly before 7 a.m. Yeager is operating under a Level 3 emergency which is the highest level.
