Skoda Karoq SUV - Skoda's replacement for the Yeti - OFFICIALLY revealed
19 May 2017, 02:38 | Ross Houston
Skoda Karoq compact SUV makes its global debut
Skoda revealed the Karoq compact SUV globally last night in Stockholm and this is the Czech carmaker's third attempt at tapping the lucrative SUV market and the successor to Skoda's first SUV, the Yeti.
We will have to wait for our first drive to see if the Karoq has been able to hold onto the character that defined its Yeti predecessor, but we fear that despite looking more polished, it could well dissolve into just another worthy-but-dull option in the crossover class.
Featuring Skoda's new design language - that is also present on the new Kodiaq - which mirrors the more conservative styling we've come to expect from Skoda, with the exception of the oddly placed fog lights immediately below the LEd headlights.
With the performance orientated (and very similar-looking) SEAT Ateca Cupra on the horizon, it is also not out of the question to think Skoda will be giving its Karoq the vRS treatment, further confirmed by the knowledge that Skoda has been considering a vRS variant of the larger Kodiaq.
Skoda Karoq has a boot capacity of 521 L with the rear seats in place. The new digital instrument panel will be fully customizable. We told you the Volkswagen Tiguan and SEAT Ateca are heavily related to the Skoda Karoq, which stands at 4,382 millimeters (172.5 inches) long, 1,841 mm (72.4 inches) wide, 1,605 mm (63.2 inches) tall, and packing a great wheelbase stretching at 2,638 mm (104 inches). However, when the Karoq comes to India, Skoda will most probably sell it with one diesel and one petrol engine to choose between, or two diesels and one petrol engine to choose from. Skoda's latest generation infotainment systems have also been confirmed, with a 9.2-inch range-topping version available as an option. However, if you require even more space, the rear seats can be taken out to convert the Karoq into a van with 1,810 litres of cargo space.

Fox News founder Roger Ailes dead at 77
Thursday's news of the death of former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes hit several staffers hard, including S.C. native Ainsley Earhardt. In a 2014 autobiography, Ailes is quoted in 2010 telling Fox News executives, "I want to elect the next president".
Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the Skoda Karoq.
The Karoq is being launched with a line-up of five engines. Skoda claims it can crack 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 131mph - although its Carbon dioxide emissions of 138g/km mean it's likely to be one of the niche choices in the range, especially in the UK. The top systems Columbus and Amundsen have a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Karoq will be offered with four different engine option, a 1.0 l and 1.5 litre petrol.
Other than the 140TDI, all of the powerplant choices - ranging from 1.0- to 2.0-litres in displacement, and 85kW to 140kW in power - are offered overseas with either the dual-clutch or a six-speed manual gearbox, but the three pedal set-up is unlikely to make it Down Under. Skoda Phonebox with wireless charging and enhanced cellular connectivity, a LA Audi A3 will be another highlight. All motors will feature turbo-charged direct injection, start-stop and brake energy recovery features. Other than that, the Karoq gets the full set of driver assistance systems like Park Assist, Lane Assist and Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detect and Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection. The 2.0 TDI with 190 PS comes as standard with 4×4 drive and 7-speed DSG.
As of now, we expect the vehicle to hit Indian markets late this year or early next year. There's also the VW Group's new 150-hp 1.5-liter TSI Evo that premiered on the updated Golf with cylinder deactivation technology.
