Sheriff: 1 dead after tornado hits Wisconsin trailer park

"Severe storms are expected to develop this afternoon from the Mid Missouri Valley into Wisconsin", says the Storm Prediction Center in a weather outlook. "We have at least one deceased so far and we're still in a search pattern". It paves the way for state agencies to provide assistance to those impacted by the storm that destroyed 38 mobile homes near Chetek, and badly damaged almost a dozen more.

"There are several more people and businesses to thank for the support, food, water, et cetera, and in the coming days I hope to be able to thank them", Fitzgerald said. He thinks the park had about 50 homes.

The National Weather Service says its preliminary damage rating for the tornado that destroyed the trailer park was a strong EF2.

The Oklahoma storm struck about 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, wrecking much of a subdivision on the southern fringe of Elk City, Oklahoma.

Officials from Wisconsin Emergency Management, Department of Natural Resources, State Patrol and many other state agencies will be on standby and continue to monitor severe weather inside the Emergency Operations Center.

"I kinda blew it off not knowing the severity of the situation", said Ronnie Bloomberg.

The National Weather Service in Norman has not yet released information about the strength of the tornado, but tweeted early Wednesday that it will be surveying the damage.

The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs and the National Weather Service say they will be sending damage survey teams to the area today to assess the locations and the number of tornadoes.

The storms leveled the Prairie Lake Estate Mobile Park, about 110 miles northeast of Minneapolis, Wisconsin.

Shards of glass were flying at them like bullets, Tyson told the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.

On Tuesday, tornadoes were spotted in several states due to a massive storm system, and one person was killed in Wisconsin when a tornado struck a trailer park near Chetek. He also added that when the responders first came to the scene there were a lot of people yelling and asking for help. While their home was flattened, the SUV next to it was untouched.

Amazingly, the infant grandson escaped with just a couple of scratches, he said.

"I know there were walls on top of people", Fitzgerald told reporters. Samuelson's daughters suffered minor injuries. No fatalities were reported in other states, but there have been reports in the eastern Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma of utility poles and downed power lines.
