Indian luxury train, Tejas Express, with WiFi and LCD monitors is set to be on track from Mumbai to Goa on May 22. Automatic entrance door will be provided in the coaches and this will be the first in non-suburban train in Indian Railways. All preparations have been done for the launch of the 20-coach train, which will have secured gangways, automatic doors, and 22 new features.
The Mumbai-Madgaon double-decker train service may be facing the axe with the impending introduction of the high-tech Tejas Express on the Mumbai-Goa route.
Equipped with CCTV cameras besides smoke and fire detection system, the 19-coach Tejas train will have bio- vacuum toilets and GPS-based passenger information display system.
Prabhu inspected the new coaches of Tejas Express and told reporters, "We have announced about it (Tejas Express) in our 2016-17 Budget, and we are happy to deliver it". The Tejas will also serve choice cuisine curated by celebrity chefs. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inspected the new train and said that the upgraded, all-seating service would attract a slightly higher fare than Shatabdi, the nearest comparable product from Indian Railways' existing offerings.
The newly-designed coaches are capable of running at 200 kmph. As a result, it will cover the journey from Mumbai CST to Karmali in Goa in eight and a half hours. "We received instructions from the railway board for the arrangement of catering services in the country's first Tejas train", said an IRCTC officer. The Tejas Express is likely to run on the Anand Vihar-Lucknow route and the Mumbai-Surat route, but the schedule is yet to be decided.
The fare has not been disclosed, but the officials point out that it will be almost 30% more than that of Shatabdi and other premium trains.
