Frenchmen claim cure for WannaCry-infected computers

The ransomware is a type of malicious software that infects a computer and restricts users’ access to it until a ransom is paid to unlock

There is a split pricing for this version, meaning that the company has now made the top most security offer as an addon feature, rather than a basic one.

It is believed that Microsoft rolled out the firmware only to the Windows 10 series, as the company had stopped software support for Windows Vista version last month.

The WannaCry infections were so bad that Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30), in a surprising move, released a patch to update old, unsupported Windows systems.

When it comes to business, the risk is more since one infected computer might affect all the others connected to it, as in the case of businesses and offices.

A Microsoft spokesman reached Sunday said the company had no comment. Since the late 1990s, the majority of industrial RF devices have used successive generations of Microsoft mobile operating systems, which allowed DCs to upgrade devices without changing their software applications. What many operations people don't realize is that changing to a new OS has major implications for your warehouse software systems. Around 200,000 victims in 150 countries have been affected, according to European Union police force Europol, many of them businesses including major corporations such as Nissan, FedEx and Hitachi.

Because of the way WannaCry spreads sneakily inside organisation networks, a far larger total of ransomed computers sitting behind company firewalls may be hit, possibly numbering upward of a million machines.

The malicious software has reportedly infected computers in up to a hundred countries and tried to extort users' money.

The researchers - Adrien Guinet, Matthieu Suiche and Benjamin Delpy - worked separately to find ways to decrypt files scrambled and held hostage by WannaCry.

The developers released the tool on Friday, as the deadline expires for computers all over the world first infected a week ago.

Public sector agencies also have a luxury in the form of highly-skilled government experts from the likes of the National Cyber Security Centre who are available to ensure that critical services, such as the NHS, are kept operational.

High-profiles attacks like WannaCry "drive the market", Ilex International president Laurent Gautier told AFP.

WannaCry encrypts victims' computer files and displays a message demanding ransoms to be paid in the digital currency Bitcoin before people can get their files back.

Europol tested the team's new tool and said it was "found to recover data in some circumstances".

"Nevertheless, the global security market has grown in terms of revenue, and we see a very strong potential for additional growth in products but even more in consulting and managed security services over the next few years".

WannaCry landed nine weeks after Microsoft's patch arrived.
