Trump Hits Lowest Approval Rating As President

20 May 2017, 02:56 | Darnell Patrick

President Trump's approval rating has sunk to 38 percent - its lowest level since Inauguration Day, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll out Friday. The remaining 6% said that they had "mixed feelings" about the president.

On May 19, a new survey conducted by Morning Consult/Politico found that only 41 percent of national adults approved of Trump's job performance while 53 percent disapproved.

That comes after a week of revelations about the President's handling of classified information-sharing it with Russian officials-and allegations that he pressed then FBI director James Comey to end an investigation of his former national security advisor's contacts with Russian officials-the President denies it.

By Wednesday, the Justice Department had appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller to oversee an independent probe of possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The incident has affected voters' confidence in Trump handling the nation's most sensitive secrets. Trump explicitly denies that there has been intrigue with Russian Federation and characterizes the ongoing research at the heart of the witch hunt research.

Among Republicans, 23 percent expressed disapproval of Trump in the latest poll, up from 16 percent in the same poll last week. No politician in history, he said, "has been treated worse or more unfairly". The decline in support from Republicans appears to be a primary reason why Mr Trump's overall approval rating is now at the lowest level since he took office.

Former President Barack Obama enjoyed a 60.3 percent approval rating at this point in his administration, former Presidents George W. Bush had a 54.4 percent approval rating, Ronald Reagan had a personal best of 68 percent approval, and Richard Nixon had a 61.9 percent approval rating at this point in their respective administrations. It gathered responses from 1,971 adults, including 721 Republicans and 795 Democrats.
