Boeing unveils B737 Max 10

20 June 2017, 04:16 | Austin Hogan

First, Airbus announced a firm order for 100 A320neos, the aircraft maker's single-aisle competitor to Boeing's 737 MAX family, from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), a division of General Electric Co.

The MAX 10 will be 66 inches longer than the MAX 9 and feature new levered main landing gear.

Kevin McAllister, Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO, said, "We are honored to partner with Avolon for new 737 MAX airplanes as they look to strengthen their position as one of the world's premier commercial airplane lessors".

Boeing and Airbus plan to flood the Paris Air Show with order announcements and flashy airplane displays, but there's a cloud hanging over the market: Analysts have been asking questions about the seemingly soft demand for twin-aisle jets such as Boeing's 777, 787 and the yet-to-be-built 777X - and yes, Airbus' A380 as well.

Germany-based tourism business TUI Group is converting 18 of 70 existing orders for other MAX planes to the new 737 MAX 10.

Boeing Inc. on Monday revealed its extended-length 737 Max 10 model with the aim to directly compete with Airbus's A321 series.

Boeing said Monday that its board of directors has given the green light to develop a new super-stretched version of its single-aisle 737 Max. However, standard industry price discounts would cut the value to just less than $5 billion and it's highly likely that for orders like these launching a new model the discounts are much bigger. "Many airports are running out of capacity and for those airports this is a flawless aircraft", said Ajay Singh, the chairman of low-priced Indian airline SpiceJet, as his company signed a provisional deal to buy 40 MAX 10s.

The Max series of jets are created to be a more fuel-efficient version of the workhorse 737, Boeing's most popular commercial plane.

A Memorandum Understanding (MoU), valued at Dollars 4.7 billion at current list prices, was signed at the Paris Air Show, which commenced on Monday (19 June).

No-frills carrier SpiceJet on Monday announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with aircraft maker Boeing for 40 737 MAX aeroplanes that are valued at United States dollars 4.74 billion at current list prices. The MOU also includes an option for a further 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

SpiceJet is scheduled to take the delivery of its first 737 MAX in 2018.

Boeing is increasing 737 production from 42 to 47 planes a month by the end of this year and will reach 57 annually by 2020 to meet demand, Mr Muilenburg says.

The A320neo range of jets, created to use less fuel than the original and widely-used A320s, have proven popular and are competing with Boeing's 737 Max series in the short to mid-range market.
