Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez 'not contemplating' Cristiano Ronaldo exit

20 June 2017, 05:14 | Pamela Mathis

Manchester United have reservations about trying to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer, Sky Sports understands.

But the Portugal worldwide was not a realistic target at that point, having signed a new five-year Real Madrid contract last November. I've heard about the Cristiano situation from what newspapers have written.

"First I have to meet Zidane and then we will talk", he said.

"I must defend him at all costs, both as a player and as a person". I have no doubt that Cristiano will be able to defend himself.

President Florentino Perez broke his silence on the issue on Monday night after he was re-elected in his position - unchallenged - for another four year-term and insisted on the Portuguese player's innocence. What I have been told is that he has the same structure [in Spain] that he had in England and there was no problem there.

Vince Cable to run for Liberal Democrats' leadership in UK
He is the first member of the party to announce that he will run in the leadership election, according to Sky News . He said his 20 years of frontline experience were needed in "a period of chronic uncertainty".

The frenzy of speculation began soon after Ronaldo was accused last week of a €14.7 million tax evasion through offshore companies.

United have been strongly linked with a move for their former forward, but Perez is not thinking about the possibility of Real losing their talisman.

Reports of a rejected EUR60million bid from United seem wide of the mark, though, according to Madrid president Perez, who remains keen to keep Morata in the Spanish capital.

"Not I nor anyone at Madrid is contemplating that Cristiano could leave the club", said Perez.

Ibrahimovic is set to leave at the end of his contract and United captain Wayne Rooney has yet to announce where he will be playing his club football next season, although David de Gea's future is becoming clearer.
