Trump's lawyer denies he's being investigated

Spicer Doesn't Quite Say that Trump Has Confidence in Rosenstein

While Sekulow might be a new face to much of America, he's been traveling in Washington conservative circles for years.

"Those reports in The Washington Post were false", Sekulow said. "The legal team has not been notified", he said on CNN.

Rosenstein in a memorandum had made the case for the ouster of FBI Director James Comey. To make it even more hard, their client's public statements often threaten to undercut their work. But it is not all that different from the approach other Republicans take when it comes to dealing with facts and reality in other contexts - consider the climate change deniers, who cheerfully dismiss troubling scientific evidence, trusting the problem to take care of itself (or perhaps to be addressed by divine intervention).

"This is an individual as president of the United States, has the social media platform that reaches 107 million people instantaneously with a message", said Sekulow. "Good luck trying to represent him".

President Trump's lawyer pushing back from Trump's tweet Friday saying "I am being investigated for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, witch hunt".

Rosenstein is the official who appointed Robert Mueller as a special counsel to take over the FBI investigation. "If you were a target, if you were being investigated, you would be told really quickly into the investigation". While Mueller is ultimately accountable to Rosenstein and must run requests for resources and significant moves, like convening a grand jury or filing criminal charges, past him, Rosenstein is largely divorced from the day-to-day proceedings of the investigation.

"Number two, the actions the president took regarding the removal of James Comey from office after consultation with others in a deliberative process, is what presidents do, is not based on which an obstruction case could be based constitutionally".

But he contradicted himself on "Fox News Sunday", where he first told Fox News' Chris Wallace that Trump isn't being investigated, and later slipped and said he was - then conceded by saying he "read the mind" of the special prosecutor. "The tape will speak for itself; you said he is being investigated".

Through his campaign, Trump asserted the official jobless rate is phony because it leaves out millions who stopped looking for work. This weekend, it produced some of the more excruciating news coverage in recent memory as one of his lawyers, Jay Sekulow, was tendentiously grilled on the question of whether the president has conceded that he is under investigation.

In this case, though, Conway and Sekulow are basically saying to ignore the president's tweet. There's been no notification of an investigation.

Barnier said there will be one week of negotiations every month and the two sides will use the time in between to work out proposals.

Trump lawyer: "There is no investigation"
The victory turned Sekulow into a crusader for religious expressions and a celebrity on the Christian right. Earlier in the morning, Kellyanne Conway summed up the case Sekulow had made ad nauseam on Sunday.

There is a stigma attached to being an investigative subject.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for the Mueller team, declined to comment. That may be an understandable approach in such a high-profile matter, though not always an advisable one.

The assurances from Comey that the President wasn't under investigation were apparently no longer applicable, according to the Post report. Ron Wyden of OR noted that Mr. Sessions was relying on an "executive privilege" of the presidency not articulated by Mr. Trump, but he heatedly maintained his position. "When you became a sort of talking head and spokesperson - a PR person basically - you lose credibility and you confuse your role".

"I think it's really inevitable that he'll have to recuse himself", Kenneth McCallion, a former assistant USA attorney for NY during the Carter and Reagan administrations, concurred.

"I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", he said.

"Boring" seems out of the question.

Sekulow has publicly criticized Comey, whom Trump fired.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has given his legal team a clear direction: Fight, fight, fight. Well known in the Manhattan business circles that Trump inhabits, Kasowitz has a reputation as a bare-knuckles court brawler.

It seems to me largely semantics, but the is-he-or-isn't-he argument stems from the latest push by the White House.
