A group in the USA formed to catch the 14-year-old after she was left hanging by jut her arms and head.

As she flailed, she slipped out from her seat and was left dangling from the ride by her arms, holding on in fear as a group of men gathered beneath her. "It's OK to let go, I'll catch you, honey, '" Howard recalled to the AP. The two and some other good Samaritans carried the girl to where emergency workers later arrived to help her. The girl, from Greenwood, Delaware, reportedly suffered no serious injuries as a result of her fall. She can then be seen falling quickly, first into a tree and then into the assembled crowd.

The unidentified teenager was riding on the "Sky Ride" at Six Flags Amusement Park in Queensbury, New York just after 8 p.m. Saturday.

Winchell and her father visited the girl on Sunday (25 June) and said she was in good spirits.

Authorities said a 47-year-old man was also hospitalized when he hurt his back trying to catch the girl, but has since been released.

Loren Lent, whose wife and daughter were on the ride, said it had no seatbelts, but did have a bar running across it to keep people in.

The State Department of Labor cleared it for operation, but the park is keeping it closed while they do an internal review. "The safety and security of our guests is our top priority and our thoughts and prayers are with our guest and her family".

Still, theme park ride-related accidents can be horrifying when they do occur, and more than 1,000 injuries on such rides have been logged each year between 2003 and 2015, according to the National Safety Council report.
