Vettel feels 'dizzy' behind new safety shield

The escalating title rivalry between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton is expected to rouse something of a pantomime atmosphere in central England this weekend when the duo rejoin their battle at the British Grand Prix.

The FIA's latest cockpit protection concept is one step closer to being fully implemented.

Sebastian Vettel cut short the first-ever trial of F1's new Shield head protection concept after the cockpit screen made him feel "dizzy".

He later revealed revealed he had planned to do more running with the shield but asked for it to be removed after his initial experience of it.

"I think it's because of the curvature, you get quite a bit of distortion, plus you get quite a bit of downwash down the straight pushing the helmet forward".

Arsene Wenger 'Positive' Alexis Sanchez Will Remain At Arsenal
After two straight wins in Australia, Arsenal play Bayern Munich in Shanghai on Wednesday in the International Champions Cup.

Hamilton himself has kept out of the limelight since making his disappointed exit from the Red Bull Ring last Sunday, but admitted, "I don't have a crystal ball, but it doesn't look great at the moment".

"We had a run plan with it but I didnt like it so we took it off".

The Shield is described as a "transparent open canopy system constructed using polycarbonate" aimed at "providing significant protection from debris, while ensuring unrestricted forward vision for the driver". "We will be testing it on various cars over the coming months".

Armed with the updated 'Spec 3' Honda power unit in both cars, McLaren enjoyed a strong FP1 as Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne finished inside the top 10.

"It's promising but we need to develop it in a way that can be helpful".
