Ex-Con Praised for Skipping Job Interview to Aid Car Accident Victim

Car Crash

Aaron Tucker was giddy with excitement when he landed a job interview for a bus boy position - but he never made it to the interview.

Aaron Tucker didn't think twice to help a stranger when he saw smoke coming from an overturned auto.

A former prisoner in Bridgeport, Connecticut, left a bus on the way to a job interview to help save a man who was trapped in his vehicle after it overturned.

"I looked up and saw a auto flipped over right in front of the bus, so I ran to try to jump out of the bus", Tucker told the Daily News.

Ignoring the fact that he would miss his interview, Tucker jumped off the vehicle and ran over to the smoking auto. "I said, 'Your family wants you, '" Tucker said.

The Westport community is rallying around Tucker. Fire Chief Robert Yost told the Westport News that Tucker and two other civilians are responsible for the rescue.

Without wasting time, he removed the shirt that he had been given for the occasion of the interview, and used it to stop the blood gushing out from the victim's head.

An ambulance arrived and the victim was taken to a hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable.

He said: "It didn't go through my head, because a job can come and go, but a life is only one time". I told him to open his eyes. "The only thing running through my head is that person in the vehicle could pass away, and I could help him", he said.

"Aaron is the kind of man who should be celebrated", Karin Dale, of Westport, wrote on the GoFundMe page she created.

A GoFundMe page had raised more than $27,000 as of Saturday afternoon. "But to me, if it happened again, I'm going to continue to do it because it's the right thing", he said.

It's alright to hear people saying i'm a hero. Tucker said that after serving 22 months on a weapons charge, the job offers are very meaningful to him so that he can again begin to earn enough money to raise his 21-month-old son.

"What I have found wonderful about his is it's just not about Aaron anymore", Dale said.
