Chechnya president: 'We don't have any gays'

Chechen President on Gays

Ramzan Kadyrov, leader of the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, has called for ridding his region of gay people "to purify the [nation's] blood".

"We don't have such people here". "We don't have any gays. If there are any, take them to Canada", Ramzan Kadyrov said in an excerpt of the interview with HBO's Real Sports released Friday.

The full episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel will air on July 18, in which the show will examine Kadyrov's political use of MMA for military recruitment and reinforcing his repressive power.

"This is nonsense", says Kadyrov, laughing off allegations of a gay purge.

Kadyrov says, "To purify our blood, if there are any here take them", and he goes on, "If there are any take them to Canada".

Scott continues to press him on the treatment of the LGBT community, prompting an angry response from Kadyrov.

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since October 2015, when the tensions intensified. Jaffa Gate, heavily used by tourists and near the Old City's Jewish Quarter, was open but with a heavy police presence.

Scott followed up by asking whether Kadyrov feels concerned over reports of the torture.

In May, reports surfaced that Trump's State Department had denied visas for gay men fleeing Chechen persecution. They are subhuman. God damn them for slandering us.

When pressed on the matter further, he continued: 'They are devils. As quoted in The Irish Independent, Kadyrov's spokesperson Alvi Karimov claimed, "You can not detain and persecute people who simply do not exist in the republic". They are not people. "Let them be cursed for what they say about us", Kadyrov said, referring to the media that he claims is slandering his name. "They will answer to the Almighty for this.".

An April report by Human Rights Watch on the treatment of LGBT people in Chechnya said: "For several weeks now, a brutal campaign against LGBT people has been sweeping through Chechnya".

"America is conducting an anti-Russian policy against the country's leadership", he said.

The latest interview with the leader of Russia's Chechen Republic, where he dismissed the USA as too weak to be Russia's enemy, has been widely cited in the media. "Even if our government was completely destroyed, our nuclear missiles would be automatically deployed".
