US Vogue apologises after 'missing the mark' with Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid 'gender fluid' claim
Vogue received some serious and well-deserved backlash after releasing its August cover on Thursday.
The term "gender fluid" is used to describe a person who does not identify themselves as having a fixed gender.
In the couple's joint cover story, Hadid and Malik share that they are flexible when it comes to fashion and have no problem dipping into the other's closet. Most importantly, Gigi and Zayn may be eschewing fashion norms that come with the gender binary, but they're not actually gender fluid. "Wearing your gf's T-shirt does not make you gender fluid", on Twitter user wrote.
A Vogue spokeswoman told U.S. website BuzzFeed: "The story was meant to highlight the impact the gender-fluid, non-binary communities have had on fashion and culture".
The statement went on, "We are very sorry the story did not correctly reflect that spirit - we missed the mark".
"We do look forward to continuing the conversation with greater sensitivity".

Just ahead of the launch, a source has leaked a camera-shot of the final version of the upcoming Moto G5S Plus smartphone . The smartphone is powered by a 3,068mAh battery and features a 5.5-inch display with 1080 pixel resolution.
Revealing her love for the former One Direction star's fashion pieces in the joint interview, the 22-year-old model asked Zayn: "I shop in your closet all the time, don't I?" "Yeah", Malik says. "I like that shirt". And if it's tight on me, so what?
- Miss Queen Sateen (@sateenie)Think Vogue is a bit confused on what gender fluidity is! But as soon as the cover story made its way to the Vogue website, Twitter pointed a big flaw from the story.
Taking a jibe at the cover story, a social media user said if women wearing men's clothing were considered gender fluid, then women from 40s who sported bell bottoms and pants would also qualify in the category.
Even Teen Vogue, the magazine's younger counterpart, took a shot at its peer, tweeting out the definition of "gender-fluid" along with an article explainer.
