A Pakistan military court has rejected Kulbhushan Jadhav's mercy petition and Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa is analysing "the evidence" against the former Indian naval officer, reports from Islamabad said on Sunday.

A military court in Pakistan has rejected the mercy petition of Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian national who was sentenced to death in Pakistan. "COAS is looking each aspect of Kulbhushan Jadhav's appeal and will decide on merits", Pakistan army said. Now the Chief General of Pakistani Army reviewing the case proceedings. However, Pakistan can not execute Jadhav since a stay has been ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) after India approached the international body for justice.

"Indeed, were Jadhav's mother allowed to meet her incarcerated son, it may even have the benefit of indirectly demonstrating that the convicted spy is being treated according to the law and his safety is being taken care of inside a Pakistani prison", the editorial said. However, India maintains that he was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy. India has accused Pakistan of repeatedly violating the Vienna Convention.
