OJ Simpson to fight for parole
17 July 2017, 01:38 | Max Haynes
The Nevada parole board will meet next week to decide whether or not O.J. Simpson should be released when eligible on October 1.
In fact, the Nevada Board of Parole says about 30 news organizations have registered to cover the hearing at both the hearing location in Carson City and at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nevada, where Simpson is incarcerated on the 2008 armed robbery and kidnapping convictions.
Simpson has been in prison for the past nine years on kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon charges, after he burst into a Las Vegas hotel room in 2007, and demanded a collector give him back sports memorabilia that Simpson claimed belonged to him. However, he had to serve at least 4 more years in prison at that time.
One defense attorney believes he is likely to receive a parole.
Simpson was convicted after breaking into a Las Vegas hotel room on September 13, 2007, with the help of several other men and stealing sports memorabilia he claimed belonged to him.
USA Today reports that the parole is mostly determined by a "points system", and any personal feelings the parole board has about Simpson's past murder trial involving Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman will be ignored.
Announced Marvel: Powers United VR for Oculus Rift
Hulk towers over the enemies and as you unleash his abilities you can see his hands come together for his trademark Hulk smash. The first-person title will also feature four-person co-op play, where the heroes will fight against Marvel's villains.
Four of the men with Simpson, Michael McClinton, Walter Alexander, Charles Ehrlich, and Charles Cashmore pleaded against him after accepting plea deals, and received probation. "They were trying to steal other people's money".
Simpson will have an opportunity to address the board by video conference as he did during the 2013 hearing.
Another accomplice, Clarence C.J. Stewart, went on to trial and was convicted, but his case was overturned by the Nevada Supreme Court after it ruled he was denied a fair trial.
Four members of the six-person parole board will be in the hearing room in Carson City. Simpson could be paroled Thursday.
If the six votes are split, a subsequent parole hearing will be held in January 2018. "A decision (on Simpson) is being made at the time of the hearing so that the board's operation can return to normal as soon as possible after the hearing".
"You have to do what you think is right and not really worry about public opinion", Salling added.
