Police Busts Hizbul Module That Sent Boys To Pakistan For Training

In a major setback to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested its seven over ground workers including a cop. Representational Image

The police said the OGWs were arrested for their involvement in providing logistic support to militants for carrying out an attack on special police officer Khursheed Ahmad on June 11 at Imam Sahab in Shopian district.

Another Hizbul module was detected in Baramullah and three men were arrested.

As a fresh recruitment module of militants was busted on Sunday in north Kashmir, the police figures suggest attempts of over 80 youths heading for arms training into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), have been scuttled by timely action of the security forces in the past three months.

Investigation revealed that the attack on the Shopian police station had been carried out by a Srinagar-based Hizbul Mujahideen unit.

The arrested OGWs have been identified as Amir Mohidin, a relationship executive in a bank, Constable Ahmad, Basharat Yusuf Mir, a teacher in a private school, and Iftikhar Rather.

It added, "After sustained questioning they were arrested and are being investigated for their roles". The boys were later handed over to their parents.

Investigation conducted so far reveals their complicity in entering into "criminal conspiracy for carrying future attacks on policemen and civilians", the police said.

Baramulla SSP, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir told news agency PTI that the module was being spearheaded by Hizbul Mujahideen commander Parvez Wani alias Mubashir, who is a resident of Gagloora Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

In another statement, the police said that Baramulla police assisted by security forces has busted a module of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen which was active in the area and was mainly involved in luring young boys into militancy.

"They were identified as Ansar-ul-lah Tantray son of Mohammad Munawar Tantary resident of Raipora, Palhalan, Abdul Rashid Bhat son of Sona-ul-lah Bhat resident of Minipora, Sopore and Mehraj-ud-din Kak son of Nazir Ahmad Kak resident of Andargami, Pattan", police statement said.

Arms, ammunition and Rs 1 lakh in cash were recovered from the arrested persons. The report added that recently Baramulla Police has found around 10 boys who were to be inducted in militant ranks.
