Talking to mediapersons, Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das said, "As per the instructions of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, all the MLAs and leaders have been directed to have a single opinion and choose Congress candidate Meira Kumar in the Presidential election". Sources in the MIM told The Sunday Guardian that the party might abstain from the election to prove that it is equidistant from both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress.

As the Presidential Elections 2017 is underway, Congress-led Opposition Nominee Meira Kumar stated that her battle is of ideologies and she has urged the collegiums to listen to their conscience for the best interest of the country.

The party has seven members in the Telangana Assembly and two in the Maharashtra Assembly.
