Man charged for throwing rifle into water used in deadly shooting

Henry County prosecutors charge William Grant Noble, 35, of Clinton with having thrown the rifle police claim was used by McCarthy into a body of water knowing it had been used in a crime.

Investigators believe they have recovered the murder weapon used to kill a Clinton Police officer.

Lowe says he couldn't immediately specify the style of the rifle.

Missouri Highway Patrol officers searching for suspect Ian McCarthy prepare to drive into a field parked with old mobile homes on the outskirts of Clinton, Mo., earlier this week. Police say he agreed to show police the guns at his house in Clinton.

The affidavit does not say what type of weapon it is or when he bought it.

In a surprise, earlier this year the SC said that matter of the disputed land is sensitive and should be settled out of court. In December, the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha and the Sunni Waqf Board move the Supreme Court, challenging the HC ruling.

The affidavit did not say why officers wanted to talk to him, but they told him they wanted to see guns he owned.

"Noble acted like he was visibly upset and faked crying", according to the affidavit. Police asked him why he was fake crying and Noble allegedly told police he sold McCarthy the gun. Noble said he bought the gun for McCarthy because he was from out-of-state. As police were leaving, they say they asked Noble if he knew where the weapon was now located. Noble then "stared" at the officer for about a minute, "blankly", before the officer asked again and he said that he knew where the weapon was.

Noble told the officers he "panicked" when he returned home on Monday - the day after the shooting - and found the rifle leaning against an inside doorway, the statement said.

Police say Noble took them to the intersection of NW 300th Road and NW 131st Road, north of the Clinton city limits.

McCarthy is in jail and being held without bond, accused of murdering Officer Michael at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, August 6th. Investigators on Wednesday still were trying to retrace McCarthy's whereabouts during his two days on the run and determine if he had any help eluding authorities, Lowe said. Before shots were fired, Michael managed to give a description of a dark SUV with Missouri plates, which is registered to McCarthy, according to a probable cause statement.
