Alexis Sanchez to miss start of season through injury

Alexis Sanchez ruled out for two weeks after suffering abdominal strain during training as Arsene Wenger insists it is 'possible' star could sign new contract

10 Arsenal Players Set To Miss Leicester Game As Wenger Reveals Fresh Injury Blow

Wenger said the Chile global would miss Arsenal's home fixture against Leicester City on Friday as well as the trip to Stoke City on August 19.

It's little wonder some of Europe's elite might look to poach the Chile global after Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

Speaking about Sanchez's injury, Arsene Wenger explained why his star man will be missing.

"He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training, before he came to Wembley".

Sanchez's Arsenal future has been subject of intense speculation throughout the off-season with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain backing out of a chase for the Chilean, who reportedly still interests Manchester City. I think he will not play at Stoke, yes.

A look at the realities of a North Korea nuclear threat
A solid-fuel "Pukguksong-2" missile lifts off during its launch test at an undisclosed location in North Korea. The North has achieved what many observers thought was beyond them, and ahead of schedule.

However, the Gunners are still facing uncertainty about Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who have all entered the final 12 months of their contracts. It can happen in pre-season and anyway, I don't think I would have included him on Friday night. I think if you read the French papers, they are on [Kylian] Mbappe's case to finish their transfer market'.

"He is focused. When you have treatment on the medical bench it's not easy". Now, will we manage to extend his contract?

'It's a long time I didn't speak to Nasser because [he's] certainly very busy to complete the transfer of Neymar'. "I can take a gamble on one, maybe maximum two", Wenger said.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will be confident going into their game against Leicester, having beaten Chelsea in the Community Shield five days earlier.

Ozil is a doubt against Leicester, however, along with Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi, while Laurent Koscielny is suspended. He has impressed immensely at right wing-back but with Hector Bellerin still coming through, it's hard to say who will be first choice.
