The bot made its worldwide debut at The global, the largest esports tournament in the world with a prize pool of $24 million.

The founder of Blue Origin, Elon Musk took to the Twitter and posted about a bot built by his nonprofit organization, OpenAI and also said that it has managed to beat several of the world's best players at the video game, Dota 2. "This guy is scary", a shocked Dendi told the huge crowd watching the battle at the event.

It's not only Google's AI that has the potential to defeat humans in their own game. OpenAI stated that its AI had been performing at the championship and it has already defeated the Pakistan-based gamer Sumail (the world's best 1v1 player), and Arteezy (the world's overall top player). Afterwards, Dendi admitted he was surprised at how easily the bot beat a human player, adding that it felt "a little like human, but a little like something else".

As its Chairman Elon Musk had tweeted, competitive e-Sports are more complex than traditional board games like Chess & Go.

It's unclear exactly how OpenAI's bot was trained as the research outfit has not yet published any technical details. The bot learned the game from scratch by self-play, and does not use imitation learning or tree search. It learns to predict its opponent's movements and pick which strategies are best in unfamiliar scenarios.

The bot which had been playing with several players in the world both amateurs and professionals, today faced the Dendi (one of the leaders in Dota 2) at the main stage of The International (annual Dota 2 tournament). Elon Musk himself has expressed concerns about the growing threat of AI and the need to regulate it "before it's too late".
