Trump speaks on Russia, North Korea and Hillary Clinton

President Donald Trump accompanied by Vice President Mike Pence speaks to reporters before a security briefing at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster N.J

CORNISH: Let's start with the comments on North Korea.

President Trump says he is ready to declare the nation's opioid crisis "a national emergency", saying it is a "serious problem the likes of which we have never had". "It's the first time they've heard it like they heard it".

There was no immediate official reaction from the State Department.

BENNETT: Well, earlier this week, as we all know, the president warned North Korea against making any more threats to the USA, saying the country, in his words, will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.

The war of words between Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un continued on Thursday as Trump said that maybe his threats of "fire and fury" were not enough. The U.S. military routinely discloses information about North Korea missile movements and launches. "And he'll see", he said. If the money is available is available to set that kind of thing up where some guy on the street that doesn't have any money can get into a detox - he's got a shot.

"You wonder why there was all this talk and all this lead up because the announcement was sort of a non-event", he said.

Dems urge Tillerson to rein in Trump on North Korea
She said Tillerson and Mattis had a good relationship and that Tillerson had not spoken about US military capabilities. The statement raised eyebrows as it appeared to draw a red line at threats alone.

"The tragedy of war is well enough known, it doesn't need another characterization beyond the fact that it would be catastrophic".

This comes after criticism from Democrats that the president has not done enough on the issue. And he also wouldn't rule out a preemptive strike on North Korea.

No word on whether the USA received a bill for that one. We are united in calling on the North Korean regime to halt its nuclear program.

"We look forward to working with you to support crucial diplomatic initiatives and avoid catastrophic war", they said. "We'll see what happens".

The issue came to the fore again this week when USA intelligence analysts assessed that North Korea had produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead, according to multiple sources, which would bring the country a significant step closer to being able to fire a nuclear-tipped warhead at the US or its allies.

Hood, who also co-authored a recent Huffington Post piece with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and celebrity doctor, Mehmet Oz, said the opioid crisis is escalating at breathtaking rates considering that more than 140 Americans are dying of drug overdoses each day. "But, if China helps us, I feel a lot differently toward trade, a lot differently towards trade", he said.
