Trump speaks with Guam governor amid North Korea threat

Abella assured the safety and protection of migrant Filipino workers currently in Guam following North Korea’s airstrike threat on the US territory

"Mr. President, as the governor of Guam.and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or confident with you at the helm", Gov. Eddie Baza Calvo (R) said, according to a video posted to his Facebook page.

With Guam's safety in the balance, Trump assured the territory's Governor Eddie Calvo: "We are with you 1000 percent, you are safe".

Guam is telling its residents what to do if North Korea launches a missile attack at the USA territory, but is also calling for calm. "The KPA Strategic Force is now carefully examining the operational plan for making an enveloping fire at the areas around Guam with medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic rocket Hwasong-12 in order to contain the US major military bases on Guam". "I wanted to call you and say hello". We are with you 1,000 per cent.

Guam's Homeland Security Department on Friday released this pamphlet: "In Case of Emergency - Preparing for an Imminent Missile Threat". "But you'll be taken care of". "Fallout radiation loses its intensity fairly rapidly".

It urges residents to identify concrete shelters near their homes - brick structures also work - and instructs people to dispose of their clothes and wash heavily after an attack in an effort to reduce the impacts of radiation.

"I'm glad you're holding the helm sir", Calvo said.

Mr Trump agrees, saying "They should have had me in years ago. frankly you could have said that for the last three presidents".

He then reassured Mr Calvo, who he describes as a "hell of a guy", telling him the United States military is "rock solid".

The president called the U.S. military "incredible, "rock solid" and "the best in the world by a factor of five".

An American territory that hosts a significant military contingent, Guam has found itself in the crosshairs of a geopolitical feud sparked by Donald Trump promising "fire and fury" in response to further threats.

If correct, and if the United States allows the missiles to launch in the first place, that leaves 17 minutes for tracking stations on land and sea - including the Pine Gap facility near Alice Springs - to calculate, target and try to destroy the missiles.

After the tourism discussion, the two talked more about North Korea and how to deal with someone like Kim Jong Un and about partisan rancor and obstructionism in Washington, D.C.

"Don't worry about a thing", Trump said.

The North's official KCNA news service, for its part, accused Trump in an editorial of "driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war", calling the U.S. "the heinous nuclear war fanatic".
