DeShone Kizer on game-winning TD & more quotes from Browns preseason win
Despite Kizer looking like the Browns' most impressive quarterback, coach Hue Jackson apparently is not ready just yet to talk about him possibly opening the season as the starter.
There's still work to do, and Jackson isn't going to succumb to outside pressure to rush him.
"It's still too soon", he said Friday on a conference call.
Kizer created a buzz with his second half, when he completed two passes of at least 45 yards, one for the game-winning touchdown with 1:52 left.
As for his other quarterbacks, "I wasn't expecting perfection tonight", Jackson said. "It is the raising of a quarterback". "I think we all know that".
"Anytime you can win the game and make some of the plays he made, there were positives from that".
"I think there are throws he could have made".

She said during these period, the House passed Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) and Demands for Excess Grants (General). The lower House, however, passed more bills as compared to the upper House which spent more time on non-legislative business.
"And if a guy is good enough and deserving of an opportunity, trust me, we're not in a position where we wouldn't give the best player an opportunity. We'll continue to work through this, and when we think the time is right, whenever that is, then we'll make that decision".
There is a chance that Kizer could simply be elevated to the No. 2 role instead of starting. And one that's best learned early in preseason, rather than when the games count. He could stick with Osweiler against the Giants but leave the door open for Kizer to take over at any time.
Brock Osweiler started the game against the Saints. Jackson said after watching film of T Cam Erving, "it wasn't as bad as I think we all thought".
"I'm going to think through all these scenarios, I really am", Jackson said.
DeShone Kizer just made this a real quarterback competition and his decision of what to do next a hard one. I think there's a process to all of this, and I think we're just in the beginning phases of it for him. It's not just because people see a bomb thrown downfield from 45 yards. He was measured initially in talking about the rookie quarterback, noting Kizer struggled at times to call plays and did some things which were "un-Kizer like" throughout his debut. So we're not there yet.
Kizer completed 11 of 18 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.
Jackson said he was pleased that Kizer made plays with his arm and legs, and that he "stood in the pocket with poise". "Making sure we execute the plays at the line of scrimmage", Jackson said. He did not mention it specifically, but the three sacks where he held the ball too long on each were clearly on Jackson's mind. "You want to do what's best for your team and your players".
