Championship leader Marc Marquez stormed to a third consecutive pole at the Austrian MotoGP on Saturday.

Despite the battle for victory having gone down to the wire, Marquez felt Dovizioso had better pace. "On the two left corners maybe I was gaining three tenths compared with him". But I heard his engine the corner before the last - he opened the gas before me, and I knew he wanted to try.

"I was able to be there for the two left corners [Turn 6 and Turn 7], only this".

In the second part of the race, they swapped places numerous times as they fought for first place, with Dovizioso emerging ahead as the chequered flag closed in.

Marquez remains ahead in points with the British GP at Silverstone up next, but it's now Dovizioso hot on his tail - 16 points adrift. Vinales slipped to third spot with 150 points, followed by Rossi on 141.
