Championship leader Marc Marquez claims third straight pole in Austria
Championship leader Marc Marquez stormed to a third consecutive pole at the Austrian MotoGP on Saturday.
Despite the battle for victory having gone down to the wire, Marquez felt Dovizioso had better pace. "On the two left corners maybe I was gaining three tenths compared with him". But I heard his engine the corner before the last - he opened the gas before me, and I knew he wanted to try.
"I did this [gesture] instinctively, because that is not a corner to try to overtake a rider".
"He had a chance to try in the last two corners, but the corner before last I braked very late and it was hard for him".
He ran wide and that let Dovizioso through, with Marquez having to settle for second.
"But, we survived the race, we're second, and if you said to me on Thursday I'd be second, I would say it's a great result".
"I was able to be there for the two left corners [Turn 6 and Turn 7], only this".
"I pushed 100% and I made a decision to go all-in - the championship is important but even second place is", he said.
"I arrived on the limit and I tried [to overtake] on the last corner, because if not, I can not go to sleep [tonight], I have to try". "He was good stopping the bike and trying to exit, but I was faster". Zarco took fifth after holding off Vino. ales and coming home top Yamaha, with Rossi crossing the line in P7.
Alvaro Bautista secured an eighth-placed finish for Aspar Ducati, with Avintia Ducati's Loris Baz ended ninth.
