Dyche: Burnley Proved Doubters Wrong With Victory Over Chelsea

13 August 2017, 06:57 | Pamela Mathis

Chelsea began their defence of the Premier League title with an appalling start to the 2017/18 campaign, losing 3-2 at home to Burnley.

West Brom, fresh off handing Tony Pulis a one-year contract extension, host Bournemouth at the Hawthorns, with Jay Rodriguez looking to hit the ground running following an injury-hit few years at Southampton.

There was at least one positive aspect for Chelsea in the performance of Álvaro Morata, who scored his first club goal, although Conte also warned that his record signing still has much work to do on both his fitness and fitting into the system.

Antonio Conte was facing a full-blown crisis on Saturday night after his Chelsea side were embarrassed by Burnley's shock 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Morata had just 30 minutes to somehow help spark a revival from three-goals down and pulled one back in the 70th minute with a neat header, diving in to nod Willian's cross into the far corner.

Goal from Sam Vokes in the 24th minute of the match gave burnley the lead.

The disappointment was evident in the reaction of the crowd when Artifact was unveiled, as captured by Twitter user Nickisnixed. The company will capitalize on the massive popularity of " Dota 2 " by creating a game based on it.

Chelsea's task was made even tougher in the 80th minute when Cesc Fabregas was sent off for picking up his second yellow card of the game.

Eden Hazard, Pedro Rodriguez, and Tiemoue Bakayoko are injured, striker Diego Costa is estranged, and Conte has a threadbare squad after selling midfield anchorman Nemanja Matic to rival Manchester United and loaning out numerous club's youngsters. They're heavily tipped to end the season rock bottom, but the Terriers could give the first indication today that they're prepared to spring a surprise. "I have to start to study a new formation with 10 players because this irregularity is worrying". "I haven't seen it but my staff tell me it's the correct decision", Dyche said.

"We conceded three goals too easily. I wanted to win here, not to send a message".

Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, and Bernardo Silva " attacking midfielders costing a combined $175 million " came off the bench to help City clinch a 2-0 win at promoted side Brighton.

While Antonio Conte has added to his squad this summer with the major signings of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger, they've also continued to let players leave the club.

Wayne Rooney crowned his first appearance for formative club Everton since 2004 by notching the victor in a 1-0 win over Stoke City, heading in Dominic Calvert-Lewin's cross for his 199th Premier League goal.
